These Basketmaker, anthropomorphic female figures (500 A.D.) are portrayed in elaborately decorated ceremonial garments. At first glance, a majority of these ancestral figures appear to be headless. Because vegetable dyes, white clay or chalk paints have long since faded away, many rock art panel must be investigated with means other than the naked eye. If you look clolsely you will see the faint outlines of heads and headdresses which once adorned the main figures. Note the enigmatic being surrounded by the handprints of children.
