For security purposes, the ancient Anasazi built this cliff dwelling deep within the remote canyons of Cedar Mesa in southeastern Utah. An approximately fifty-foot sheer drop-off made access to what is known as, Two Story Ruins, difficult at best. A small entrance door and second floor window allowed the Puebloan residents a clear view of encroaching parties. Because of devastating draughts and the subsequent lack of natural resources, between 1,200 - 1,300 A.D., prehistoric warfare was a constant reality for the indigenous populations scattered throughout the Four Corners region.
